Step #1 - Students made a music video for motivation and encouragement when writing.
Before we start a writing project, Mrs. Martin will remind us to be brave. She will say "How big is your brave today?" or "Take a risk and try saying something".
Step #2- Students Examined the difference between a Fixed and growth mindset.
As well, we explored the question-Why do we write?
Step #3- We examined our own mistake quotes
Step #4- We continue to Examine Literature that supports the importance of a growth mindset
1. Your Fantastic Elastic Brain by Joann Deak taught us that the brain can re-wire itself, adapt and change.
The following is an activity we completed after reading the book.
2. The Girl That Never Made Mistakes -Reminded us that we need to make mistakes to learn and grow.
The summary writing activity we completed after reading this book.
3. The Most Magnificent Thing- We learned that achieving our goals may require many attempts.
Step #5- Mrs. Martin worked hard at shifting her teacher language when commenting on written work. She now makes comments based on the writing process not the final product.
Step #6- We started having writing conferences and setting personal writing goals
Similarly to the video we also started our own goal setting and conferencing.
